‘PAIRED: Champagne & Sparkling Wines’ (The food & wine matching recipe book for everyone), written by husband-and-wife team Fran Flynn and David Stevens-Castro, has received a ‘Best in the World Award’ in the Food & Wine Matching category at the prestigious Gourmand World Cook Book Awards in Yantai, China on 28 May 2016. The Australian cookbook recently published by Paired Media was competing with 208 other countries.
This follows on from two ‘Best in Australia’ Gourmand awards earlier this year in the categories of Food & Wine Matching and French Wine, which qualified the book to represent Australia in both categories at the Gourmand Awards World Event.
“This win is a fantastic achievement especially since this self published book is our first. We are truly honoured to receive such an accolade, particularly competing with so many large, established publishing companies around the globe. This endorsement of our efforts will spur us on to get the next two books in the series - PAIRED: Whites & Roses and PAIRED: Reds - released very soon” says coauthor Fran Flynn.
ABOUT THE AWARDS
The Gourmand World Cookbook Awards were founded in 1995 in Spain by Edouard Cointreau (of the famous Cointreau family) to honour the best food and wine books in the world and to increase knowledge and respect for the food and wine culture. The competition has grown to be the most prestigious for this genre in the world. Publishers from over 200 countries nominate thousands of books every year. Selected books first compete on a national level before moving on to The Best in the World competition. All types of publishers, from large publishing houses, to self-publishers are invited to participate. Edouard Cointreau considers professional self-publishing to be the fastest growing segment in the publishing industry.
